A number that reads perfectly reasonable on our indoor bay can behave differently once it hits the actual air outside. Pensacola sits on a barrier-island climate with summer humidity that regularly tops 85 percent and a steady onshore breeze off the bay most rounds — both of which change how a given spin axis tilt shows up on the ground.
Why Denser Air Amplifies Curve
Humid air is, somewhat counterintuitively, slightly less dense than dry air at the same temperature, because water vapor molecules are lighter than the nitrogen and oxygen they displace. But Gulf Coast summer conditions pair that humidity with high temperatures and, more importantly, a persistent crosswind — and it's the wind, not the humidity itself, that does most of the amplifying. A 5° axis tilt that curves a manageable 8 yards in still air can drift considerably further once an 8–14 mph crosswind off the bay gets involved.
Why This Matters for Fitting
A fitting that only ever gets tested in a perfectly climate-controlled bay risks under-correcting for how a player's shots will actually behave outdoors. If your axis tilt sits close to a threshold where it's borderline playable in calm conditions, a typical Pensacola crosswind can push it into genuinely costly territory on the course, even though the indoor numbers looked fine.
